How many Americans identify as Muslim?

It is hard to put an exact number on Muslim Americans because the US Census does not note religion. However, the number of American Muslims is estimated to be between 2 and 7 million people. The Muslim population of the United States is only around 1% of the population.

Muslim Americans are primarily of Arab, South Asian, and African origin, but include a variety of other countries. The majority of Muslim Americans live in California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland.
