American Muslims have strived to create an adaption of Islam that thrives in a religiously plural environment. American Muslims are under more scrutiny from the media and their peers from different religions following 9/11 and the rise of “radical Islam”. Muslims have been subjected to more discrimination than other religions since 9/11, but members of other faiths have tried to protect Muslims. For example, people have been protecting mosques and wearing the scarf in solidarity with Muslim women.
