A hate crime is a bias-induced criminal offence or attempted criminal offence against a person, property, or society, motivated by prejudice against actual or perceived race/religion or belief/ethnic origin/gender identity/sexual orientation or disability. These crimes are used to spark fear and intimidation within a community, and to alienate community members and increase feelings of vulnerability.
